Flooded Roadway? 'Turn Around, Don't Drown:' Is the Office Of Emergency Management Caution

BRANFORD, CT — As heavy rain and flash flooding is expected to continue through Tuesday morning, the Branford Office of Emergency Management and the Branford Fire Department are cautioning folks about water on the roads.

"Even a small amount of water on the road can be dangerous. Floodwater may hide washed-out pavement, debris, downed power lines, or rapidly moving currents," OEM noted.

"Just 12 inches of moving water can carry away many vehicles, and you may not know how deep the water is until it is too late.

Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

If you encounter a flooded roadway:

Do not drive around any barricades.

Do not attempt to cross standing or moving water.

Find another route and report hazardous conditions to local authorities.

Keep children away from flooded streets, storm drains, and streams.

Stay safe, avoid flooded roads, and help protect first responders from unnecessary rescue situations."
