Bridgeport Public Schools Names Chief Of Special Education

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport Public Schools has named Jennifer Hoffman its chief of special education.

The Bridgeport Board of Education voted June 17 to endorse Hoffman as senior specialized instruction officer in the Department of Special Education, acting on the recommendation of Interim Superintendent Royce Avery. Hoffman began working for the district July 1 and serves as its chief of special education.

"Hiring Dr. Hoffman represents a key step forward in the district’s special education department’s redesign, which during the past year has made dramatic progress in filling the ranks of our teaching staff," Avery said in a statement.

Hoffman previously worked as a special education teacher, middle school principal and special education administrator. Her work has included special education programming, educator coaching and school-based support for students and staff.

Before joining Bridgeport Public Schools, Hoffman spent six years as assistant superintendent for special education for Hartford Public Schools, overseeing services for about 4,000 students with disabilities across 39 schools.

"I look forward to collaborating with educators, staff, and community partners to build on the district’s strengths, create inclusive opportunities for all learners, and ensure every student has the support they need to thrive."

Hoffman also serves on the board of directors for the Connecticut Council of Administrators of Special Education, known as CONNCASE.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in special education with dual certification in elementary education from Saint Joseph College, a Master of Education in educational leadership from Central Connecticut State University and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from Sacred Heart University.
