Determination Made In Bridgeport Death Investigation: Police
The victim was found dead in his Brooks Street home in late January, according to authorities.
BRIDGEPPORT, CT — The death of a 61-year-old Bridgeport man found in his Brooks Street home on Jan. 31 has been ruled a suicide, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Bridgeport police announced.
The man died of a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities are withholding his name to protect the family’s privacy, according to Det. Jeffrey Holtz.
Police said officers were called to the residence at about 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 31, after a family member went to check on the man and found him unresponsive in a second-floor bedroom. Officers also found a dead dog on the first floor of the home. Authorities said both the man and the dog appeared to have been dead for several days.

The dog was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for testing by the Animal Control Unit, police said.
The department’s Major Crime Unit processed the scene, and the case was initially investigated by the Homicide Unit as an untimely and suspicious death. Findings from that investigation were later confirmed by the Medical Examiner.

Police said they recovered the firearm used in the incident.
