'Dracula' Coming To Brookfield Theatre — With A Bloody Ticket Deal

BROOKFIELD, CT — Want a discount on tickets to see Dracula? Brookfield Theatre for the Arts has an appropriately bloody way to get one.

The theater is offering a buy-one, get-one-half-off ticket deal to patrons who donate blood ahead of its upcoming production of Kate Hamill's Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really.

The promotion is a nod to the play's gory subject matter and an effort to help alleviate the national blood supply shortage, according to the theater. BFTA partnered with the Brookfield Lions Club for the promotion.

Patrons can qualify for the ticket promotion by showing proof of donation at either of two blood drives: Sept. 10 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Raymour & Flanigan in Brookfield or Sept. 18 from noon to 5 p.m. at VFW New Milford.

The production runs from Sept. 18 through Oct. 10 and offers a darkly funny reimagining of Bram Stoker's classic story. The adaptation confronts toxic masculinity while shifting power to characters traditionally cast as "damsels in distress," according to the theater.

Pippa Walton will make her directorial debut with the production.

"This reimagining of Dracula holds a special place in my heart and sharing that vision with this cast and creative team has been exhilarating," Walton said in a statement.

Walton said audiences should expect the familiar story to be "twisted on its head" while remaining true to its original themes.

"I hope audiences come in ready to laugh and shriek a little bit too," Walton said.

The cast includes Emma Duffy, Izzy Porter, Larry Weatherspoon, Joseph Roman, Tarah Vega, Melanie Fay, Megan Gorman, Mason Andrew, CJ Palumbo, Daniela Cardarelli and Alexandra Stewart, with Óran Matheson serving as swing.
