Warrant Reveals New Details In Brookfield Doctor's Sexual Assault Case

BROOKFIELD, CT — Newly obtained court documents detail new allegations and evidence in the case against a Brookfield doctor accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile patient and providing the teen with methamphetamine.

Dr. Jose Mahfoud, 47, was arrested last week on charges of second-degree sexual assault and distribution of a controlled substance to a person under 18 following a months-long Brookfield police investigation.

Mahfoud has pleaded not guilty to both felony charges, according to court records.

An arrest warrant provides new details about the investigation and the evidence police said they gathered before Mahfoud's arrest.

The investigation began in June after a juvenile told police about interactions with Mahfoud during approximately two years of treatment at Sophia Natural Health Center in Brookfield, according to the warrant.

The juvenile told investigators he initially met Mahfoud as a patient and that their interactions later became sexual, according to police. The teen also told investigators Mahfoud provided him with methamphetamine and electronic cigarettes and that the two sometimes used the drug together.

The teen told police they injected methamphetamine together at the health center, according to the warrant.

Investigators subsequently examined the juvenile's cellphone and Telegram account.

A forensic examination identified 62 Telegram message threads, according to the warrant. Police said the communications included discussions about drugs, nicotine and alcohol, as well as sexually suggestive conversations.

The juvenile told investigators Mahfoud paid him for nude photos, according to the warrant.

Police also said the forensic examination uncovered photographs and other evidence they believed corroborated portions of the juvenile's account.

Among the material described in the warrant was a photograph of Mahfoud and the juvenile kissing, along with sexually explicit images investigators said had been exchanged.

As part of the investigation, a Brookfield youth officer used the juvenile's Telegram account to communicate with Mahfoud while posing as the teen, according to the warrant.

The warrant also details investigators' interview with a second juvenile who had received care from Mahfoud.

That juvenile told police some interactions with Mahfoud during appointments made him uncomfortable, including touching that the juvenile described to investigators, according to the warrant. Mahfoud has not been charged with an offense involving the second juvenile.

Police said the investigation ultimately gave them probable cause to believe Mahfoud had a sexual relationship with the first juvenile and provided him with methamphetamine.

Mahfoud was arrested Sept. 10. He remained in custody on $300,000 bond as of Wednesday, according to state court records. His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 28.

Investigators also executed a search warrant at Sophia Natural Health Center, where Mahfoud practiced. The practice cooperated with investigators throughout the investigation, according to Brookfield police.
