Juvenile Causes ‘Extensive Destruction’ To Cheshire High School Band Field: Police

CHESHIRE, CT — An arrest warrant is being sought for a juvenile in connection with the “extensive destruction” caused to the Cheshire High School band field, according to police.

Police received a report on July 27 that “significant damage had been done to the Cheshire High School band field after a vehicle was driven across the area, causing extensive destruction to the field.”

“Initial estimates indicate the damage exceeds $5,000, although the final repair costs will be determined once contractors have completed their assessments,” police wrote in a news release.

Police said detectives identified the juvenile responsible “within hours” by using the Flock License Plate Reader (LPR) camera system.

“A juvenile arrest warrant is being sought for the appropriate Criminal Mischief charges, and restitution will be pursued as part of the judicial process so that the cost of these repairs is borne by the responsible party rather than Cheshire taxpayers,” police wrote.

Police said the case “serves as another example of how modern investigative technology helps law enforcement solve crimes quickly and efficiently.”

Police also shared a recent letter from the Connecticut Chiefs of Police Association regarding its support of License Plate Reader technology.
