Video Captures Bear Roaming Downtown Danbury

DANBURY, CT — A bear was caught on video roaming downtown Danbury Tuesday, prompting city officials to warn residents to keep their distance.

Video shared by the Danbury Library shows the bear walking through the downtown area near the library before disappearing from view.

The City of Danbury said it had received reports of a bear in the downtown area and urged residents not to approach the animal.

"We have received reports of a bear in downtown Danbury. Please do not approach," the city said in a social media post Monday, adding the hashtag "#Danbeary."

It was not immediately clear where the bear was last seen or whether it remained in the area.

Black bears are common throughout Connecticut, and state wildlife officials advise residents to keep their distance, never feed bears and report emergencies to local authorities.
