Elizabeth Anne Regan Dever ("Betty Anne")

December 2, 1941 – June 5, 2026

Elizabeth Anne Regan Dever, lovingly known to family and friends as Betty Anne, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2026, at the age of 84. A resident of Darien for more than five decades, she leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family, friendship, service, and community.

Born on December 2, 1941, in Hartford, Connecticut, Betty Anne was the daughter of the late Grace Heaviside Regan and Thomas Joseph Regan. After graduating from Manchester High School, she attended Simmons College before earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut. At UConn, Betty Anne was a member of the mathematics honor society, Pi Mu Epsilon, and the sorority Pi Beta Phi. Her years at UCONN sparked a lifelong love for the UConn Women's Basketball Team, which she followed with unwavering enthusiasm for decades.

After college, Betty Anne began her professional career at United Aircraft Research Laboratories in East Hartford. She later moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for Computer Applications, Inc. and Technical Operations, Inc. During the early days of computer programming, she helped design and develop systems for NASA and the U.S. Army, an impressive achievement at a time when few women worked in the field. It was during her years in Washington that she met the love of her life, David Dever.

Betty Anne and David shared 52 years of marriage and built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. They first lived in New York City with their beloved Great Dane, Heineken, before settling in Darien, where they raised their children, Anne and David Jr., along with a succession of cherished black Labrador retrievers.

Family was at the center of Betty Anne's life. Summers were spent at the family's beloved spot in Maine, where she perfected her famous Maine blueberry pie - a treasured tradition eagerly anticipated by children and grandchildren alike. Whether gathered around the dinner table, enjoying time on the water, or sharing stories and laughter, Betty Anne created countless memories that her family will cherish always.

A devoted volunteer, Betty Anne generously gave her time and talents to many organizations throughout her years in Darien. She held numerous leadership positions within the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk, remained active with the Pi Beta Phi alumnae organization, served in PTA roles at Holmes School and Middlesex Middle School, and volunteered with the Darien YWCA, St. Luke's Church, and the Darien United Way. Her commitment to service reflected her belief in giving back and strengthening the community around her.

Betty Anne was also an avid reader and lifelong learner. Friends would often joke that when asked what she was reading, she would list two or three books she was simultaneously working her way through. She loved learning, discussing ideas, and sharing recommendations with anyone who asked.

More than anything, Betty Anne will be remembered for her sharp mind, kind heart, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family. She took great joy in watching her children and grandchildren grow and was deeply proud of each of them.

Betty Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband, David Dever, and her son-in-law, Kevin Cullinan. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Cullinan; her son, David Dever Jr.; daughter-in-law, Courtney; her cherished grandchildren, John, Regan, Ryan, Elyse, and Michael; her sister, Nancy Clapp; and her brothers, Daniel Regan and William Regan, along with many extended family and dear friends who were like family.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 19, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Parish.
