Waterfront Property Once Owned By Legendary Actor Listed For Sale In Darien

The home, which was originally built in 1866, offers 200 feet of waterfront property, according to the listing.

DARIEN, CT — A waterfront home originally built in 1866 and formerly owned by legendary Academy Award-winning actor Christopher Plummer is for sale in Darien at $12.995 million.

The home is located at 209 Long Neck Point Road, and is listed by Shelly Tretter Lynch of Compass Real Estate. Yashmin Lloyds, also of Compass, is noted as an alternate listing agent.

There are five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The house is 7,610 square feet, according to the listing on Zillow.

"This dramatic property offers 200 feet of waterfront frontage with your own private beach in the premier Long Neck Point area of Darien," the listing on Zillow says in part. "Once owned by Christopher Plummer of The Sound of Music, the current owners have meticulously renovated and restored this cherished home with the renowned builders, Significant Homes and interior designer, Cindy Rinfret, Rinfret LLC."

Plummer's career on stage and the silver screen spanned more than seven decades. He became internationally known for his role as Capt. Georg von Trapp in "The Sound of Music" (1965).

Other notable films that Plummer appeared in include "The Man Who Would Be King" (1975), "The Insider" (1999), "A Beautiful Mind" (2001), "The Last Station" (2009), "Beginners" (2011), "All the Money in the World" (2017), and "Knives Out" (2019).

Plummer earned an Oscar ("Beginners"), two Tony Awards ("Barrymore" and "Cyrano"), and two Emmy Awards ("The Moneychangers" and "Madeline").

After living in Darien, Plummer moved to Weston where he lived for more than 35 years. He died on Feb. 5, 2021, at his home there.

A listing for "two separately deeded parcels," also from Compass, at 207-209 Long Neck Point Road came online in April for $19 million. That asking price was reduced to $16.995 million on June 25, according to Zillow.

Property records note the home at 209 Long Neck Point Road last sold in 2015 for $11.2 million.
