Popular Restaurant Closes After Devastating Fire In Durham

DURHAM, CT — The Cozy Corner restaurant in Durham remains closed after last week’s fire, the owners said in an update on Monday.
“Due to a devastating fire, Cozy Corner will be closed until further notice,” reads a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page. “We are hoping to rebuild and be back someday soon.
“Please keep our employees in your thoughts as they now navigate unemployment.”

The fire broke out in the kitchen of the Cozy Corner around 9 a.m. on Friday, May 1.
The owner of the restaurant was hospitalized with smoke inhalation after the incident, according to WFSB 3.

The restaurant, located at 5 New Haven Road in Durham, was fully engulfed when crews arrived, according to WTNH News 8.
NBC Connecticut reports firefighters brought the fire under control within 15 minutes.
Durham Fire Marshal Robert Doyle told NBC Connecticut that the owner of the Cozy Corner Restaurant has been a “pillar of the community for over 35 years” and is devastated by the fire.
