5 Things To Know In East Hampton & Portland: Brownstone Avenue Brownfield, POCD Comments And More

PORTLAND, CT — Portland's Economic Development Commission meets jointly with its brownfield steering committee on Brownstone Avenue and Brainerd Place, and East Hampton is taking written comments on its draft Plan of Conservation and Development through October.

Here are five things to know about life around East Hampton and Portland this week:

1. Portland EDC, Brownstone Panel Meet On Brownfield, Brainerd Place
When: Tuesday, Oct. 13, 7 p.m.
Where: Mary Flood Room, Portland Library, 20 Freestone Ave., Portland
What to know: Portland's Economic Development Commission holds a special joint meeting with the Brownstone Area Steering Committee, according to the agenda. Members will present the fourth-quarter Business of the Quarter award to Candles by Kay and hear updates on the regional housing needs assessment, business support programming, Brainerd Place, the Brownstone Avenue brownfield and business development projects.

2. Portland Library Board Discusses Energy Audit, FY28 Budget
When: Thursday, Oct. 15, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Van Beynum Room, Portland Library, 20 Freestone Ave., Portland
What to know: The Library Board of Directors will discuss a scoping study and energy audit of the library, the fiscal 2028 budget and participation in Laptop ConneCT, and may act on a $1,382 Craft and Hobby renewal and 2027 meeting dates, according to the agenda.

3. East Hampton Takes Written Comments On Draft POCD
When: Through the end of October
Where: Land Use Office, Town Hall, 1 Community Drive, East Hampton
What to know: The POCD Steering Committee's working draft of the updated Plan of Conservation and Development is available, and formal written comments are being accepted through the end of October at the Land Use office, according to the town. More Planning and Zoning discussion is planned for November, with a formal public hearing expected in December.

4. East Hampton Personal Property Declarations Due Nov. 2
When: Due Monday, Nov. 2
Where: Assessor's Office, Town Hall, 1 Community Drive, East Hampton
What to know: Businesses and others with taxable personal property as of Oct. 1 must file a sworn declaration with the Assessor by Nov. 2 or face a 25 percent penalty, according to the legal notice. Examples include machinery, furniture and fixtures, unregistered motor vehicles, farm machinery, tools, supplies, and horses and ponies. Questions: 860-267-2510.
