Anita Finta Obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Anita (D’Onofrio) Finta, 83, of Branford, Connecticut passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 12, 2026. She was the beloved wife of 59 years to John Finta. She was born in New Haven on July 25, 1943, the daughter of the late Fred D’Onofrio and Theresa (Pellegrino) D’Onofrio. Anita leaves behind her loving and devoted children; Theresa Laggis (Todd) of Clinton, Holly Barnabei-Helfman (Gary) of Madison, and John Finta Jr. (Andrea) of Branford. She was the proud and cherished grandmother to eight grandchildren; Jillian Butcher (Robert), Todd “TJ” Laggis Jr. (Kaitlyn), Joshua Laggis, Taryn Barnabei, Jaden Helfman, Anthony “AJ” Finta, Isabella Finta, and Grayson Finta as well as one soon to be great grandchild. Anita is also survived by her sister, Marianne D’Onofrio of East Haven, brother-in-law, John Moroniti of Cheshire, along with her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Freida Moroniti, and brother Fred D’Onofrio Jr.

Anita proudly worked as a bookkeeper for her family’s business, Fred D’Onofrio Construction Inc. for many years. Her family was by far her greatest joy and she loved spending time with them. She treasured every moment shared together, from everyday conversations to special family gatherings. She was known for her caring heart and the advice she was always ready to give. She loved “gallivanting” along the shoreline visiting her favorite food spots, to enjoy her best loved treats. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, family, and cherished memories and though she will be deeply missed, her love, advice, and food recommendations will continue to guide her family and remain with them always.

Family will receive friends on Thursday September 17, 2026 from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven with burial to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford.
