Neil Moriarty (NHFD, ret.) obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Neil Moriarty (NHFD, ret.) 76 of East Haven passed away September 4, 2026 after a long illness. He was born February 24, 1950 in New Haven to John and Elizabeth (Keohane) Moriarty. Neil is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jo-Anne (Barrett) Moriarty of East Haven, daughter, Jessica Moriarty (Tory) of Haddam and a step-daughter, Tracy Pompano (Jay) of Guilford along with four grandchildren he adored; Nathan Pompano, Colin Pompano, Mia Marsden and Tiegan Marsden. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Moriarty of Clinton, a sister, Kathleen Klein (Bill) of Georgia, sister-in-law, Susan Moriarty of Guilford and numerous nieces and nephews.

Neil is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Bernard “Jerry” Kelly and John “Jack” Moriarty.

Neil was a proud New Haven Firefighter with over 26 years of service. After his retirement, he drove school buses in the area. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. If not spending time with his family, Neil could be caught at the Annex Club, East Shore Park walking his dogs, golfing or watching sports. He would often go to the “office” to play the daily double.

Family will receive friends on Thursday September 10, 2026 from 4 to 7 PM in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. All are welcome to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday September 11 at 11 AM in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Bernadette, 385 Townsend Ave., New Haven CT. Please go directly to the church on Friday. Burial will be private.

Neil was fond of animals and was always willing to lend them a helping hand. In his honor, please make donations to the East Haven Animal Shelter, 183 Commerce Street, East Haven CT 06512.
