Obituary: Robert L. DeFrancesco (Porto Funeral Homes)

Robert L. DeFrancesco, 90, beloved husband of Phyllis Catardi DeFrancesco of East Haven passed away on April 22, 2026 surrounded by his family at his home. Robert was born in New Haven on May 1, 1935 a son of the late Lawrence and Nancy Costanzo DeFrancesco. He was the loving father of Nancy (Edward) Poleshek of East Haven, Catherine (Rich DePalma) Vergati of West Haven and Lawrence (Cheryl) DeFrancesco of North Branford and the late Robert S. DeFrancesco. Cherished grandfather of Crystal (Rob) Laccitello, John Robert (Stephanie) Vergati, Michael (Julie) Vergati, and Matthew (Vanda) and Tyler (Brandon) DeFrancesco and Caroline Poleshek. Caring great grandfather of Nicholas Vergati. Brother of the late Rose Ardito, Eleanor, Betty, Lawrence, Salvatore, Joseph, Vincent “Red” and Anthony DeFrancesco. Prior to his retirement Robert was manager with Stop & Shop for many years. He was an Army veteran.

His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven Saturday morning at 10:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 11:00. Interment will be private.
