2 Arrested After DUI, Firearm Investigation In Fairfield: Police

FAIRFIELD, CT — Two Bridgeport men were arrested during a traffic stop on Reef Road after police said officers discovered two firearms and determined both men were under the influence of alcohol.

Officers saw a vehicle leave a parking lot at a high rate of speed around 2 a.m. Aug. 29, according to the Fairfield Police Department. The vehicle briefly lost traction and nearly struck a curb before continuing north on Reef Road, according to police.

Officers stopped the vehicle and observed signs that the driver, Timothy Owen, 24, was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested following standardized field sobriety tests.

During the investigation, officers spotted a firearm inside the vehicle and subsequently located a second firearm, according to police.

Investigators determined one firearm belonged to Owen and the other to his passenger. Police said both men had valid Connecticut pistol permits and legally owned their respective firearms, but officers determined both were under the influence of alcohol while possessing them.

Owen was charged with operating under the influence, illegal possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and unsafe movement from a stopped position, police said.

He was released on $2,500 bond and was scheduled to appear Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court.

The passenger was charged with illegal possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and issued a misdemeanor summons, according to police.

The charges are accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
