Beach In Fairfield Closed For Swimming: Health Department

Elevated levels of bacteria in the water can pose health risks, such as skin rashes, stomach illness and other ailments.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The swimming area at Fairfield's Jennings Beach is closed Wednesday, Aug. 19, "due to test results exceeding criteria," according to the Fairfield Health Department.

According to officials, the closure will remain in effect once tests for bacteria return to an acceptable level. Officials will monitor the situation and issue updates.

"All other Coastal Swimming Areas and Lake Mohegan Swimming are open," officials said in a statement.
