Fairfield To Celebrate 1st Anniversary Of State Cultural District Designation
Fairfield will mark one year as a Connecticut Cultural District with a free event in June at Sherman Green.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield’s Arts Commission will hold a public event June 27 at Sherman Green to mark the first anniversary of the town’s designation as a Connecticut Cultural District.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the green in downtown Fairfield. Organizers said the event will be held rain or shine and is free to attend.
The program will include performances, live music, an artisan market featuring handmade goods from Fairfield- and Southport-based artists, and remarks from town and state officials.

The Fairfield Arts Commission, first appointed in 2023, received state recognition for Fairfield’s first Cultural District in June 2025. According to the state, cultural districts are walkable areas that include cultural venues, activities and organizations. Fairfield is one of 13 Connecticut communities with an officially recognized cultural district.
The Arts Commission and its Cultural District Advisory Board are also asking residents to complete a public survey about the district. The survey is available at surveymonkey.com/r/ffldculturaldistrict.

People who complete the survey by June 26, 2026, will be entered into a random drawing for a Fairfield Arts Commission hat.
"The Town of Fairfield is truly blessed to have such a vibrant arts community," Matt Oestreicher, chair of the Cultural District Advisory Board, said in a statement. "We are thrilled to showcase all that Fairfield artists and creatives have to offer, and to demonstrate anew how our many artistic and cultural organizations contribute to the Town’s economic vitality and quality of life."
