Fairfield University Names New Vice President For Arts & Culture

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield University has appointed Matt Malone as its first vice president for arts and culture, effective Oct. 19, 2026.

The newly created position will oversee the university's arts and cultural initiatives. Reporting to President Mark R. Nemec, PhD, Malone will lead the Division of Arts and Culture, which includes the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, the Fairfield University Art Museum and the Center for Arts & Minds.

According to the university, Malone will work with faculty and staff to develop a strategy for coordinating arts initiatives, expanding public programming, building partnerships with artists and cultural organizations, increasing philanthropic support and advancing the university's arts programming.

Malone brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in media, higher education, philanthropy and mission-driven organizations. He most recently served for a decade as president and editor-in-chief of America Media.

He also has worked as an author and commentator on faith, culture and civic dialogue and has served as an analyst for NBC News and MSNBC (now referred to as MSNOW).

Nemec said that he expects Malone to help advance the university's efforts to bring together artists, scholars, students and community members through its arts programs.
