Historic Stanley-Whitman House in Farmington

Stanley-Whitman House

Stanley-Whitman House, a ca. 1720 National Historic Landmark in the heart of Farmington, Connecticut, is more than a museum; it is a living storybook of New England’s colonial past. For nearly a century, this house museum has welcomed visitors to step back in time and discover the rhythms of daily life in 18th- and early 19th-century Farmington. We offer guided house tours, seasonal programs, school field trips, and hands-on workshops that illuminate history through experience. From hearth cooking and foodways demonstrations to gravestone cleaning workshops and walking tours of Memento Mori Cemetery, each program brings to life the traditions, struggles, and resilience of early residents. Our growing America250 initiatives highlight Farmington’s role in the Revolutionary War, showcasing both well-known patriots and underrepresented voices, including women, Indigenous peoples, and African Americans. Our interpretive gardens, artist interventions, and rotating exhibits connect the past to the present, while our partnerships with local schools, historical societies, and cultural organizations deepen community impact. The Stanley-Whitman House also serves as a resource for genealogists, researchers, and heritage travelers who seek authentic connections to New England history. What makes us unique is the way we blend scholarship with storytelling, preservation with participation. Visitors don’t just learn history here; they touch it, taste it, and walk in its footsteps. Whether you join us for a house tour, attend a lecture, bring your students, or support us through membership and special events like our annual Progressive Dinner, you become part of a tradition of keeping history alive for future generations. For more information, hours, and upcoming programs, visit www.s-wh.org .
