One Dead, Child Hurt In Farmington As Accused Drunk Driver Crashes Into Motorcycle, School Bus: Police

The driver of a pickup truck has been charged with drunk driving in connection with the three-vehicle accident late Monday afternoon.

FARMINGTON, CT — Farmington police are investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash involving a school bus, motorcycle and pickup truck Monday afternoon on Meadow Road near the intersection with Plainville Avenue (Route 177).

According to the Farmington Police Department, the crash began when a pickup truck slammed into a motorcycle and a school bus.

Police identified the pickup truck driver as Gary Berube, who was initially charged with driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs in connection with the crash.

The accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist, who has yet to be identified by the FPD.

Police said officers responded around 4 p.m. to reports of a serious collision.

Emergency personnel began lifesaving measures for the motorcycle operator, who suffered severe injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The motorcyclist later died from those injuries, according to police.

Investigators said the crash involved a school bus occupied by the driver and one 7-year-old passenger, a motorcycle, and a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The bus driver was not injured. The child was taken to a hospital for evaluation of what police described as believed-to-be minor injuries.

According to the preliminary investigation, all three vehicles were traveling westbound on Meadow Road approaching Plainville Avenue when the motorcycle and school bus were struck from behind by the Chevrolet Silverado.

The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad is assisting Farmington police with the ongoing investigation.
