Westfarms Mall Encourages High School Seniors To Apply For Special Scholarship

FARMINGTON/WEST HARTFORD, CT — The Westfarms Mall is encouraging graduating high school seniors in the region to apply for a $1,000 scholarship that can be used toward college, vocational training or trade school.

Applications are open for the 2026-27 Shari Simon Greenberg Community Scholarship, offered through the nonprofit Simon Youth Foundation.

The scholarship provides a one-time, non-renewable $1,000 award to eligible graduating seniors pursuing their education after high school.

Westfarms said it is promoting the opportunity to students within a 50-mile radius of the shopping center, which spans Farmington and West Hartford.

Applicants must be high school seniors who live and attend school in a Simon community, expect to graduate by spring 2027, and are legal residents of the United States or Canada.

Students must also demonstrate academic promise and financial need and plan to enroll full-time in an accredited post-secondary program after graduation.

In addition to the standard scholarships, 10 of the highest-ranking applicants nationally will receive a Shari Simon Greenberg Community Scholarship Award of Excellence.

Those awards may be renewed for up to $1,000 annually, subject to available funding, for as many as three years or until the student earns an associate or bachelor's degree, whichever comes first.

The application deadline is 5 p.m. EST on Feb. 12, 2027.

Scholarships awarded during the current application cycle will be paid directly to recipients' accredited post-secondary institutions beginning in fall 2027.

Simon Youth Foundation is a national nonprofit that works with public school districts and provides scholarships and educational programs. The organization said its 32 Simon Youth Academies in 12 states have helped more than 30,000 students earn high school diplomas.
