In his statement, Weir connected his public service to the country's upcoming 250th anniversary.

"As we reflect on our nation's 250th birthday, I am reminded that every vote cast, every constituent conversation, and every decision we make is rooted in the freedoms that define our country," Weir said. "Those freedoms continue to inspire my work in Hartford and throughout the district."

Weir said he plans to take his campaign across the district as he seeks another term.

"I look forward to meeting with voters across the district and asking the communities of the 55th District for the opportunity to continue serving as their representative," he said. "Together, we can keep building a stronger future for our families, businesses, and towns."
