East Granby Approves Up To $250K For Park Paving

EAST GRANBY, CT — East Granby has approved up to $250,000 for paving and sidewalk work at Granbrook Park and East Granby Farms, with two additional projects now under consideration.

The School and Town Building Committee voted unanimously Sept. 1 to accept bids from Simmons Paving LLC and Galasso Materials LLC.

Simmons submitted a bid of $90,500 to pave parking areas at Granbrook Park and sidewalks at both parks. Galasso submitted a $131,500 bid for the East Granby Farms parking areas, according to the committee’s meeting minutes.

The two base bids total $222,000. Both include provisions allowing the price to increase based on the cost of petroleum products when the work is performed.

Committee members discussed the recent volatility of petroleum prices before authorizing a total amount not to exceed $250,000. Any money left after the projects are completed will be returned to the town’s Roof and Road Bond Fund.

The work will not necessarily end with those two projects.

The committee is scheduled to meet again Sept. 9 to consider chip-sealing the road at the town’s Recycling Collection Center. Officials said chip sealing could extend the road’s useful life.

Members will also consider extending the paved parking area near the pickleball courts at East Granby Farms, according to the Sept. 9 meeting agenda.

The committee had planned to discuss disbanding Sept. 1, but tabled the matter because additional work remained. A possible vote to disband and return any unfinished projects to the Board of Selectmen is also scheduled for Sept. 9.
