Here's Why Alina Was Shouted Out As A Greenwich Star Student

We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in Greenwich.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

GREENWICH, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Brita, who nominated Alina, a former Greenwich Academy student who now attends Johns Hopkins University

How do you know the star local student?

We met as volunteers helping hang an Art Show at the Flinn Gallery at Greenwich Library- as she is Chinese American and I am originally from Germany we got to talk.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

I told her that I had founded the nonprofit Friends of Autistic People - FAP - in 1997 to help kids who age out of school into adults in the eyes of the law to give them the supports they need to live better lives and build a Farm Living and Learning Academy.

Alina was immediately interested and wanted to help. She then edited FAP‘s website and also got FAP the yearly $1,000 award that her school gives to a favorite cause.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Alina is a caring, independent open minded thinker and takes the initiative to help wherever she sees a need. She is interested in helping a variety of causes to broaden her mind and thereby that of the people she helps, and as in her case, to appreciate Asian Americans as part of the fabric of our country. Finally she dedicated herself to her chosen volunteer activities with energy, and cycles back to ensure the aspect of the volunteer job she took on is complete

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Alina!
