Injured Owl Rescued From Roadway In Greenwich: Police

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich police on Tuesday morning said they rescued an injured owl.

Concerned residents flagged down an officer after spotting a small owl in the roadway that appeared to be injured, police said in a social media post that included video.

The video appears to show the owl near the 270 block of West Putnam Avenue.

"Officer Huestis immediately called for assistance and blocked traffic to keep the owl safe. MPO Izzo carefully secured the owl and, with the help of Officer Shaw, safely placed it in a box so it could be cared for," the department said.

Patch has reached out to police for more information on the owl and where it was taken.

"Being a police officer in our community is about more than enforcing the law," the department added. "It’s about helping those in need, no matter how big or small. Sometimes, that even means lending a hand to a feathered member of our community."

The department thanked the residents for stopping and alerting officers for help.
