Several Business Cited In Alcohol, Tobacco Compliance Checks: Greenwich Police

GREENWICH, CT — Several businesses were cited in unannounced alcohol and tobacco compliance checks conducted this week, according to an announcement from Greenwich police.

On Sept. 14, police, in conjunction with the Greenwich Together Prevention Council, conducted the checks at businesses in town that sell tobacco, electronic cigarettes, and alcoholic products.

Connecticut law prohibits the sale of these products to people under the age of 21.

Out of nine unannounced tobacco compliance checks, four businesses were found to be in violation:

• Mobil Gas Station – 520 East Putnam Ave.
• Mobil Gas Station – 1129 East Putnam Ave.
• Mohegan Vape & Cigar – 1255 East Putnam Ave.
• Shell Gas Station – 1429 East Putnam Ave.

Police said 10 unannounced alcohol compliance inspections were conducted, and two businesses were cited:

• Mobil Gas Station – 1129 East Putnam Ave.

• Shell Gas Station – 1429 East Putnam Ave.

Police noted the checks are part of the department's efforts with the Greenwich Together Prevention Council "to help prevent youth access to tobacco, vaping, and alcoholic products and to promote responsible retail practices within the community."

Retailers and their employees are being reminded about verifying customer identification and following state laws.

"Preventing access to these products by individuals under the age of 21 requires a continued partnership among businesses, parents, prevention organizations, law enforcement, and the community," police added.
