Bicyclist Seriously Injured In Groton Crash, Police Say
A bicyclist was hospitalized following an accident with a van Tuesday afternoon.
GROTON, CT — A bicyclist was seriously injured in a crash in Groton on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
The accident between the bicycle and a Ford T-250 van occurred at 4:26 p.m. on Allyn Street near its intersection with Whitehall Lane.
Officers arrived at the scene of the accident and found the bicyclist in the road, unconscious.

The van's driver remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated with police.
An investigation found that the bicycle was traveling south on Allyn Street in the right shoulder. The van was also going south on Allyn Street.

Witnesses said the bicycle veered into traffic and hit the side of the van, police said.
The bicyclist was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. They were later taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to police.
Allyn Street was closed to traffic during the investigation. The street reopened at 7:29 p.m.
The Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit is investigating.
