Driver Led Cops On Chase, Abandoned Car, Groton Police Say

The man is facing several charges in the case.

GROTON, CT — A man is facing charges after police said he sped away during an attempted traffic stop, then abandoned the vehicle in a nearby neighborhood.

Groton City police attempted to stop the vehicle on George Avenue on July 10 at 7:55 p.m.

The vehicle sped away from officers. The driver and passenger later abandoned the vehicle, according to police.

A police dog helped track the two suspects to where police believe they were picked up, fleeing the area.

Following an investigation, police said they determined that the driver was Timothy McKoy, 28, of New London.

He was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, failure to display plates, engaging police in a pursuit, operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance and operating a motor vehicle under suspension.

He was arraigned in New London Superior Court on July 13.
