Serious Crash Involving Car, E-Bike Reported In Groton

GROTON, CT — A crash involving a car and an e-bike left one person injured early Monday morning, according to police.

Emergency dispatchers received several 911 calls at about 12:20 a.m. regarding a crash in the area of Gold Star Highway (Route 184) at its intersection with Rogers Road.

A 2001 Saturn and an electric bike had collided. The man on the e-bike was knocked onto the road. The car's driver remained at the scene of the accident and called 911.

Officers found the e-bike rider in the road. He was unconscious but breathing.

Other first responders arrived and began treating the man. He was then taken by ambulance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of possible serious injuries.

The e-bike rider, a 36-year-old New London man, was treated and released from the hospital.

The car's driver was not injured.

Police said an initial investigation shows that the car was driving east on Gold Star Highway at Rogers Road. The e-bike, which was traveling north on Rogers Road, went through a stop sign at the intersection.

Gold Star Highway was closed following the accident but has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
