Walmart To Remodel Groton Store, 9 Others In CT

GROTON, CT — Walmart is remodeling 10 of its Connecticut stores this year. The initiative is "part of ongoing efforts to modernize the in-store and digital shopping experience," according to a press release.

The new stores will have upgraded layouts, technology, and services to offer "faster, more convenient shopping and delivery in as little as an hour to most customers."

The remodeled stores will have free pharmacy delivery for Walmart+ members and a store-based app to help customers navigate stores and book services at the store. The app will also allow customers to use Walmart Pay or Scan & Go to checkout faster. Some updated stores will also have wider aisles, refreshed interiors, and improved parking as well.

In Groton, a grand opening was held at the remodeled store. The Poquonnock Bridge Professional Firefighters Local 2704 posted about the opening, thanking Walmart for "their generous donation and continued support of our department and the community we proudly serve."

Across the country, Walmart is planning remodels at 650 of its stores.

Walmart plans to complete remodels at stores in the following Connecticut towns:

• Avon at 255 W. Main St.
• Branford at 120 Commercial Parkway
• Cromwell at 161 Berlin Road
• Groton at 150 Gold Star Highway
• Naugatuck at 1100 New Haven Road
• Norwalk at 650 Main Ave.
• Old Saybrook at 665 Boston Post Road
• Torrington at 970 Torringford St.
• Waterford at 155 Waterford Parkway N.
• West Haven at 515 Saw Mill Road

Walmart is also expanding with about 20 new stores scheduled to open this year or early 2027 across the country.

Currently, Walmart has 32 stores in Connecticut, according to its website.
