Another Scam Alert Issued In Guilford: Here’s What To Know
Officials are advising residents of a recent scam that has been reported in Guilford.
GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Police Department is warning residents of another scam that has been reported in town.
Police said the Guilford Planning & Zoning Department and Inland Wetlands Commission have been made aware of an email scam targeting those who have filed an application for a zoning or other permit with their departments.
Some applicants have received emails from people impersonating Planning & Zoning and Inland Wetlands Commission officials, claiming that they need to pay an additional fee for their application to be approved, according to police.

“The emails look legitimate, listing the correct address for the town agencies and even using the official Town of Guilford seal,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “However, these emails are a scam!
“Remember that the Guilford Planning & Zoning Department and Inland Wetlands Commission will never ask for additional payments via wire transfer. Fees for any applications are invoiced only through their online permitting system, Energov. Additionally, all email communications will come from their government or permitting emails, which are in the format LASTnameFirstinitial@guilfordct.gov or NOREPLY.TownOfGuilford@guilfordct.gov.

“If you do receive a suspicious email, do NOT click any links or provide any personal information. Instead, do not respond, take a screenshot or copy the message, and report the email to the Planning & Zoning Department, Town Planner Anne Hartjen, at (203) 453-8032 or Inland Wetlands Commission Administator Kevin Magee at (203) 453-8146, immediately. These departments may then report the scam emails to us for further investigation if necessary.
