Guilford Man Found Guilty Of Shooting Into Homes Of Former Classmates: Officials

GUILFORD, CT — A Guilford man was found guilty last week of shooting into the homes of former classmates several years ago, according to an announcement from New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle Jr.

A jury in New Haven Superior Court found Gregory McHugh, 42, guilty of two counts of attempt to commit first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, and criminal possession of a revolver on school grounds.

Trial evidence found that on the night of Dec. 21, 2022, McHugh fired eight rounds from a Glock 17 9mm firearm into the occupied Guilford home of a former high school female classmate, Doyle said.

The evidence further showed that during the night of Oct. 24, 2023, the defendant fired four rounds from the same Glock 17 9mm firearm into the occupied Guilford home of another former high school female classmate, Doyle said.

Police found the Glock 17 9mm firearm and ammunition at McHugh's home, along with a list of names of females, including the name of one of the victim’s daughters, Doyle said, noting ballistic and DNA evidence connected McHugh the shootings as well as historical cell site analysis.

Doyle thanked Guilford police for investigating the police, as well as the state Department of Emergency Services & Public Protection’s Division of Scientific Services and the FBI for their assistance.

McHugh is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 3 in New Haven Superior Court.
