Update Issued On Skating At Mill Pond In Guilford
Crews are working to improve ice conditions at Mill Pond in Guilford.
GUILFORD, CT — In an effort to open up Mill Pond for skating, the Guilford Parks & Recreation Department is working to improve the ice surface this week.
In conjunction with the Guilford Fire Department, crews are flooding the pond and allowing the water to freeze into a safer, smoother layer, Parks & Rec. announced.
Work began on Tuesday and will continue through Thursday this week.

Residents are being asked to stay away from the pond, as even a few footprints can weaken the new layers of ice and disrupt the freezing process, Parks & Rec. said.
"We know it’s tempting — especially when it looks close — but staying off the ice right now gives us the best chance to get it open safely," the department noted.

Mill Pond was closed indefinitely on Jan. 30 due to unsafe ice conditions.
"We know many of you were disappointed to see our last post about the pond being closed indefinitely — and trust us, we feel the same way!" Pars. & Rec. said in an update this week. "Skating on the pond is something our community truly loves."
Updates on the status of Mill Pond will be posted to the Parks & Rec. Facebook page.
"With a little cooperation (and some good freezing temps!), we’re hoping to post that long-awaited 'OPEN' sign very soon," the department added.
