Hartford Man Accused Of Selling Cocaine/Fentanyl In Vermont: Feds

BRATTLEBORO, VT./HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford man has been ordered detained in Vermont after federal authorities accused him of distributing cocaine base as part of an investigation involving a series of controlled drug purchases.

Shameik Camara, of Hartford, who is in his mid-30s, was charged by federal criminal complaint with knowingly and intentionally distributing cocaine base, a Schedule II controlled substance, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Vermont.

Camara appeared Thursday, Sept. 17, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle, who ordered him detained while the case is pending.

According to court records cited by federal prosecutors, the charge stems from a controlled purchase in Brattleboro, Vt., during which Camara allegedly sold 39 grams of cocaine base to a confidential law enforcement informant.

Authorities allege that transaction was one of 17 video-recorded controlled purchases arranged by investigators using a phone associated with Camara.

Collectively, those transactions resulted in the alleged distribution of more than 293 grams of cocaine base and more than 91 grams of fentanyl, prosecutors said.

If convicted of the charge, Camara faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Any sentence would ultimately be determined by a federal judge based on statutory sentencing factors and advisory federal sentencing guidelines.

The investigation involved the Vermont Drug Task Force, FBI, Brattleboro Police Department, and Hartford Police Department in Connecticut.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Golubock is prosecuting the case. Camara is represented by the Office of the Federal Public Defender.

This comes as the suspect was on supervised release from a Connecticut prison for a 2022 arrest for gun thefts.
