Hartford Police Plan Extra School-Zone Patrols As Students Return Tuesday

HARTFORD, CT — Hartford police are urging drivers to slow down and pay extra attention Tuesday as students return to school for the start of the new academic year.

Hartford students return to classrooms Tuesday, Aug. 25, and the Hartford Police Department said its Traffic Division will conduct high-visibility patrols and motor vehicle enforcement in school zones and near bus stops.

"As the new school year begins, the Hartford Police Department is reminding motorists to use extra caution around schools, bus stops and crosswalks," the department said Monday on social media.

Police offered several reminders for drivers:

• Watch for stopped school buses.
• Yield to students in crosswalks.
• Slow down in school zones.
• Stay alert and avoid distractions.

The increased enforcement is intended to help protect students as school buses return to the roads and more children walk to and from school.

"Please slow down, stay alert, and help us make the return to school a safe one for everyone," police said.
