Manchester Man Killed In I-84 Crash In East Hartford: Police

EAST HARTFORD, CT — A Manchester man died after his vehicle left Interstate 84 and rolled near Exit 57 in East Hartford Wednesday morning, according to Connecticut State Police.

In a report released Thursday morning, state police identified the driver as Gregory M. Allen, 55, of Manchester.

The crash occurred at about 6:21 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the area of the Exit 57 off-ramp from I-84 westbound to Route 5/15 south, according to a state police crash report.

Police said Allen was driving a 2003 Honda CR-V west on I-84 when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle entered the gore area of the off-ramp.

The Honda struck an exit sign before rolling and coming to an uncontrolled stop in the grass, police said.

Allen suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to state police.

The crash also damaged the Exit 57 off-ramp sign and about 20 feet of metal beam guardrail, according to the report.

The investigation remains active.

State police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or was traveling near I-84 westbound Exit 57 at the time and has dashboard-camera footage to contact Troop H in Hartford at 860-534-1000 or Trooper First Class Joshua Durant at Joshua.Durant@ct.gov.
