Primaries 2026: Who's On Hartford's Ballot, What You Need To Know

HARTFORD, CT — National and state elections are taking place on Nov. 3, but before that big day, the candidate slates must be finalized.

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Democrats and Republicans will head to the polls for primaries, where registered members of each party will choose who will be on the November ballot.

For example, statewide, Gov. Ned Lamont is being challenged by challenger Josh Elliot for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, so every town's Democrats will be making that decision.

Other hopefuls will also be on the ballot for both parties, depending on the town.

In Hartford, candidates will be on the primary ballots on Tuesday, Aug. 11, when polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For all of Hartford's 24 voting districts, the following Democratic primary races will be decided:

For Democratic governor, voters will choose between:

• Ned Lamont, the party-endorsed candidate and two-term incumbent.
• Josh Elliott.

For Democratic U.S. Representative, 1st Congressional District, voters will choose among:

• Luke Bronin, the party-endorsed candidate.
• Ruth Fortune.
• Jillian Gilchrest.
• U.S. Rep. John B. Larson, D-1st District, a 14-term incumbent.

In Precincts 2-9; 11; and 24, Democratic voters will decide the state Senate 5th District nominee among:

• Maryam Khan, a current state Representative endorsed by the party for state Senate.

•Douglas McCrory, a current state Senator in the 2nd Distrct.

• Ayana Taylor

In Precincts 19-22, Democratic voters will decide the state House 4th District nominee between:

•State Rep. Julio Concepcion, D-Hartford, who was endorsed by the party.

• Venice Sotomayor

Under Connecticut primary rules, endorsed candidates are identified on the ballot with an asterisk.
