Tap Those Toes: West Hartford Church Plans Free August Concert Series

WEST HARTFORD, CT — First Church West Hartford will host a series of free outdoor concerts in August, with three performances scheduled at the church's labyrinth at 12 S. Main St.

The concerts will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Community members are invited to bring lawn chairs and snacks.

The series begins Tuesday, Aug. 11, with Brown Paper Sax, a saxophone ensemble whose repertoire includes early 20th-century music such as ragtime and foxtrots.

Light dinner snacks will be provided during the concert.

The Rock Voices Choir of West Hartford will perform Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The more than 100-member group, accompanied by a rock band, will present "Music from the Movies," featuring songs associated with James Bond films, "Footloose," "Dirty Dancing," "Grease" and other movies.

The series concludes Tuesday, Aug. 25, with Still Kickin' with the Big City Horns, a 10-piece horn band performing rock, rhythm and blues, and funk. Its repertoire includes music by Chicago, Steely Dan, Tower of Power and the Blues Brothers.

Organizers said concert locations or times could change because of weather. Updates will be posted on the First Church West Hartford website.
