Home Destroyed, Pet Dies In Ledyard Blaze, Fire Officials Say
A fire broke out at the home early Saturday afternoon.
LEDYARD, CT — A fire ripped through a home Saturday in Ledyard.
Firefighters from several area agencies responded to the blaze at 12:23 p.m. at the Thompson Street home.
The fire started on the deck and extended to the rest of the home. When crews arrived, heavy smoke was showing from the front of the home with fire extending into the first floor and attic space.

Everyone inside escaped before firefighters arrived. Crews evaluated one person for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters rescued two cats from the home. However, one cat died due to its injuries, fire officials said.

Firefighters had the blaze under control at 1:30 p.m.
The American Red Cross is assisting the affected family.
The Ledyard Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
