Vacationing CT Firefighters Rescue Sleeping Residents From House Fire

SCARBOROUGH, ME — Two Connecticut firefighters are being credited with helping save the lives of a sleeping couple after spotting a house fire while on vacation in Maine.

The firefighters were driving to Old Orchard Beach on Tuesday when they noticed smoke coming from a home on Sea Meadows Lane in the Pine Point neighborhood of Scarborough, according to the Scarborough Fire Department.

After stopping to investigate, they found flames climbing the back of the house and reaching the roof.

The firefighters entered the home and found two adults asleep on the first floor. They woke the residents and safely escorted them outside before the fire could spread further.

After the couple was out of the house, the firefighters used a fire extinguisher and a garden hose in an effort to slow the fire until local crews arrived.

The Scarborough Communications Center began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting the fire at about 12:25 p.m. Responding firefighters confirmed the blaze had spread from the rear of the home into the area of the attached garage.

Additional fire departments were called in to assist as crews worked to stop the fire from spreading through the house. The fire was brought under control shortly after 1 p.m.

No residents were injured in the fire. One responding firefighter was taken to a hospital for evaluation and has since been released, officials said.

The East Putnam Fire Department recognized the firefighters as Brandon Seney and Dylan Vincent.

"We are incredibly proud of Brandon and Dylan," fire officials wrote. "Their actions exemplify the dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting others that we strive to instill in all of our members. Their quick thinking and selfless actions made a difference when every second counted."

The Scarborough Fire Department publicly thanked the two Connecticut firefighters for their actions.

"Although the house suffered moderate fire damage, the two occupants escaped uninjured because of the quick actions of these two vacationing firefighters," the department said in a news release.

The fire caused moderate damage to the home, according to the department.

An investigation determined the fire was accidental.
