Local Group ‘MAD for Trees’ Launches Campaign to Plant another 1,000 Trees in Madison

MADISON, CT — Grassroots community group MAD for Trees announced today the launch of its most ambitious environmental campaign yet: an initiative to plant an additional 1,000 native trees and shrubs across Madison. The fundraising campaign, which runs from now until August 26th, features a dollar-for-dollar matching grant program through Sustainable CT that will effectively double all local donations.

Over the past five years, MAD for Trees has successfully distributed more than 1,100 free native trees and shrubs to Madison residents. This new crowdfunding effort seeks to raise $6,000 from the community. Once met, the goal will trigger a matching $6,000 grant from Sustainable CT, an independently funded nonprofit initiative. The resulting $12,000 total will secure funding for the group’s community tree giveaways for the next two full years.

The funds raised will go directly toward purchasing locally sourced, high-quality native saplings, which are distributed to local residents to be planted in home yards and community spaces. Native trees play a critical role in supporting local wildlife, reducing urban heat, improving air quality, and preventing stormwater runoff.
