Madison Police Remind Residents Of Golf Cart Ban On Town Roads

MADISON, CT — Golf carts and "low-speed vehicles" are not permitted on public roads in Madison, according to the Madison Police Department.

Connecticut law allows local traffic authorities to regulate or prohibit low-speed vehicles on roads within their jurisdictions. Madison’s Local Traffic Authority and Board of Police Commissioners prohibit low-speed vehicles on town roads.

Under Connecticut General Statutes § 14-289m, low-speed vehicles may generally operate on highways with established speed limits of no more than 25 mph unless the local traffic authority or state Office of State Traffic Administration prohibits or limits their operation.

Connecticut General Statutes § 14-300g also provides that golf carts may be operated on public roads only when specifically authorized by the local traffic authority and when the requirements of the statute are met.
