Madison Prepares For Nor'easter Expected To Bring Heavy Rain, Strong Winds

MADISON, CT — A nor'easter is expected to affect Madison and surrounding communities beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through Sunday, according to officials.

A wind advisory is scheduled to take effect at noon Friday.

The strongest effects are currently expected from Friday night into Saturday, when heavy rain and northeast wind gusts of 45 to 60 mph are forecast. Power outages and moderate coastal flooding are also expected.

The storm's track and potential effects remain uncertain, and confidence in the forecast is expected to improve over the next 24 hours as the storm develops, according to the town. Officials said they are monitoring the storm and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Residents are advised to prepare for possible storm conditions by securing items that could be affected by strong winds and fully charging phones, portable chargers and other devices. Residents should also check flashlights and prepare for possible power outages.

Downed wires should always be treated as live and dangerous and should not be approached or touched. Generators should be operated outdoors and away from windows and doors.

Drivers should not go around barricades or attempt to travel through flooded roads because floodwaters may be deeper than they appear.
