Did you know… on September 22, 1780, General George Washington and Comte de Rochambeau met for the first time in Hartford, on the very site where Connecticut’s Old State House stands today? Their meeting forged the French-American alliance which helped turn the tide of the Revolution.
Two hundred and forty-six years later….
Connecticut’s Old State House and Mount Vernon invite you to gather to explore the full story of that first meeting and the complexities of freedom and the American Revolution.

Washington &amp; Rochambeau: The Duality of Fighting for Freedom &amp; Slavery Presentation by Dr. Anthony Martin, Central Connecticut State University, examining the contradictions in Washington and Rochambeau as military leaders fighting for freedom, and as enslavers.
Guided Outdoor Walking Tour exploring Hartford’s and Connecticut’s Revolutionary War history
Mount Vernon Resources for Teaching about Washington and Slavery Presentation by Brenda Haenchen, George Washington Teacher Institute 250 Ambassador, who will share an array of classroom-ready resources from Mount Vernon and the George Washington Teacher Institute, including primary sources and lesson plans developed by teachers across the country.
A Visit to Museum of Connecticut History to see Connecticut’s Revolution, the new exhibit that examines our state’s role in the founding of the United States and showcases treasures from the Connecticut State Library’s rich collections.
PARKING: Parking at State House Square Parking Garage, located at 75 Market Street, costs a maximum of $10 with validation from Connecticut’s Old State House. Metered street parking is available. Free on-street parking is available after 6 pm and on weekends. Please follow posted parking instructions.
Our Doors Are Open: Our building is mobility friendly with a ramp on the West side entrance and elevator access to all floors. Our bathrooms are on the ground floor and have changing tables. The show brings three accomplished rock guitarists to Hartford for an evening of live music while raising funds for assistance and support services.Johnny A. and Butcher are well known to New England audiences, but a new addition to the Monsters line-up is Dave Amato. Dave is the former long time lead guitarist for <a href="https://www.reospeedwagon.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">REO Speedwagon</a> and on a short break before finishing up 2026 touring with former Eagle, <a href="https://www.donfelder.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Don Felder. </a>As well; Dave spent extended periods of time touring with the likes of Cher, Ted Nugent and Richie Sambora.So you're in for a great night of guitar rock, knowing Johnny and Jon, and we can expect some REO and Eagles in the show.
