Manchester Firefighters Recover Fall Victim In Dramatic Rescue After Fence Caves In

MANCHESTER, CT — A dramatic rescue by Manchester Fire Department crews brought a fall victim to safety Tuesday.

The incident took place at 7:41 p.m. and Manchester Fire Department units responded to the rear of the commercial buildings at 110 Slater St., according to an incident report.

The initial emergency call described the situation as a "long fall," according to an incident report.

When emergency crews arrived, they discovered that a person had leaned against a fence over a vertical embankment and the fence gave way, causing the person to fall approximately 20 feet onto a hard surface, according to an incident report.

The location was inaccessible and required the victim to be raised vertically from the area, according to an incident report.

Crews secured a hoisting system utilizing Truck 2's ladder as a high point and created mirrored rope systems that allowed the person to be lifted to safety, according to an incident report.

The person was then transported to a local trauma center with serious injuries by Manchester Fire Department Paramedics.

The extrication took approximately a half-hour and no other injuries were sustained, officials said.
