Manchester Man Found Guilty In 2020 Sex Assault Case

MANCHESTER, CT — A Manchester man has been found guilty in a sexual assault case involving an underage victim.

Hartford Judicial District State’s Attorney Sharmese L. Walcott Tuesday announced that a Hartford Superior Court jury on Sept. 24 found Kenny De-Lao, 39, of Manchester, guilty of second-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and illegal sexual contact.

The trial evidence, Walcott said, established that six years ago, members of the Manchester Police Department responded to an incident where it was reported that there had been a sexual assault involving a juvenile. The juvenile had previously disclosed the incident to other juveniles who ultimately informed adults, Walcott added.

Testimony at trial further revealed that, on June 22, 2020, De-Lao invited the juvenile to what seemed to be a gathering of familiar individuals. De-Lao picked up the juvenile and brought the juvenile to his apartment, where he sexually assaulted the victim, according to case records.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant State's Attorney Katelynn MacKinnon and Deputy Assistant State's Attorney Ashley Carbray, with the assistance of Paralegal Specialist Julia Simon. Judge Courtney M. Chaplin presided over the trial.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 19 in Superior Court in Hartford.
