CHAPLIN, CT — A child rape case has emerged out of the small eastern Connecticut hamlet of Chaplin.

State police announced the arrest of 20-year-old Adam Jaquith. He has been charged with 10 felonies — five counts each of first-degree sexual assault of a person younger than 16 and illegal sexual contact with someone younger than 16, a warrant shows.

He is free on a $150,000 bond and was to appear in court for the second time Friday, judicial system records show.

According to a warrant, the investigation began with reports of sexual activity between Jaquith and a then-12-year-old girl surfaced via a relative of his. State police then met with the girl, who said she was seeking assistance from the state's victim advocacy program because of lingering trauma, a warrant says. They had met via mutual acquaintances, according to a warrant.

The girl said she had sustained sexual activity in various forms with Jaquith when she was 11 through 15 years old and he was 18 during some of the later encounters, according to a warrant. She said he was well aware of her age, according to a warrant.
