UConn, Voyager Technologies Expand Partnership To Advance Research In Space

STORRS, CT — The University of Connecticut and Voyager Technologies are expanding a philanthropic partnership valued at more than $1 million, giving UConn faculty and students access to research opportunities in space.

The partnership will allow UConn researchers to design and deploy experiments that take advantage of conditions in space, including near-term research aboard the International Space Station and future opportunities aboard Voyager's planned Starlab commercial space station.

The expanded collaboration makes UConn one of a select group of universities nationwide with the capability to conduct active research in space, according to the university.

"This expanded partnership places UConn at the forefront of discovery in a rapidly advancing domain," UConn President Radenka Maric said. “By enabling research in space, we are unlocking new possibilities for innovation in areas critical to our future, from advanced materials to quantum technologies.”

The partnership is intended to provide a pathway for UConn researchers to move ideas developed in campus laboratories into space-based testing and eventually into real-world applications.

Voyager's VISTA, or Voyager Institute for Science, Technology and Advancement, network connects universities and other institutions with commercial space research platforms. The network is focused on developing technologies with potential applications in commercial, civil and national security sectors.

The expanded partnership will give UConn faculty and students opportunities to participate in research in the growing commercial space sector while pursuing projects that could lead to new technologies and applications.
