4 Meriden Residents Charged In Street Takeover In New York: Police

MERIDEN, CT — Four Meriden residents were arrested and two vehicles were impounded in connection with a street takeover early Sunday morning in Yaphank, New York, according to Suffolk County Police.

Police said a 911 caller reported a large gathering of vehicles at 1:10 a.m. on Express Drive North, west of Sills Road.

When officers from the Street Takeover Task Force arrived, they saw vehicles racing before the vehicles dispersed, according to police.

Officers pulled over a truck towing a trailer carrying a race car and arrested the four, police said.

A 28-year-old man from Meriden was charged with reckless driving, unlawful third-degree fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and unlawful speed contests, sideshows and races, all misdemeanors, police said.

Three other Meriden men —a 33-year-old, 30-year-old, and a 35-year-old — were charged with unlawful speed contests, sideshows and races, according to police.

They were all issued Field Appearance Tickets and will be arraigned on a later date, police said.

The truck, trailer, and race car were impounded, according to police.
