MIDDLETOWN, CT — A 94-year-old man was escorted to safety after a fire broke out at a home in. Middletown Thursday afternoon, police and Westfield fire officials said.

The incident broke out at 1:36 p.m. at 549 East St., according to police and fire officials.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered a small fire in a second-floor bedroom and it was quickly extinguished, according to police and fire officials.

The man was removed from the house uninjured, authorities said.
